New Buildings
A major rebuilding program in 2005 to provide permanent specialist facilities and new classrooms to replace the outdated temporary buildings from the 1950s.  These new facilities will provide a great boost for the school community.
Extensive Playing Space
The school is located on a large site. The oval includes soccer, football and cricket playing areas.  The grounds include three sets of playground equipment. Shade sails have been installed over the playground equipment and large umbrellas provide shade at the table seating areas.
Modern Communications Technologies
The school is networked for information and communications technologies and students have access to computers in each classroom.

Community Links
The school has made a long-term commitment to the “Community Links” program, ensuring the school is a key part of the Wangaratta community.  The new facilities are designed to provide community access to the Library, computers and multipurpose room.

"Bindi Committee"
The school has formed our “Bindi” Committee to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.  The committee is active in promoting indigenous issues in the school and community.
LOTE
The school is proud of its LOTE Japanese program.  A qualified LOTE teacher provides a high-quality program in Japanese.  All students in Prep-6 are taught language skills in speaking, reading and writing Japanese.
Physical Education and Sport
The school places a high importance on physical and sport education.  Children are involved in a range of physical and sport activities taken by a specialist teacher.
Award Winning School
The school has received a number of state-wide and national awards over the past few years:  National Literacy Award in 1999;  Victoria Rural Pride Primary School Award in 2001; Victorian Education Excellence Award for Curriculum Innovation in 2002;   Regional and State Kleenheat Gas Community of the Year Award in 2003;  National Bank National Volunteers Award in 2003;  Finalist for Teacher of the Year Award, Welfare Team 2003.  These awards are recognition of the professional approach of staff and the school community to improve the education opportunities for children at Yarrunga PS.
Children with Disabilities
Programs for students with Disabilities and Impairments are well established at Yarrunga PS.  Parent involvement in planning and decision-making for these students is fostered through the operation of Program Support Group meetings each term.  A Leading Teacher is responsible for the management of programs for these students and for others experiencing learning, behavioural or emotional problems.
