Learning Today For Tomorrow

Our Logo

Designed by Mina Burgermeister, Art Teacher, 1979

This is Mina’s explanation:

‘When designing a pictograph that is simple enough for a child to draw; legible and economical to produce and clear in meaning, I found that existing symbols could be used. I modified these to a form that is clear and meaningful.”

Yarrunga – an aboriginal word meaning ‘Tall Trees’ had to be central to the whole.

The Y is not only the first letter of the place name, Yarrunga - but is a symbolic tree image.

The isotype man conveys that the visual image is about people – male and female, child and adult.

The community is symbolised by the open circle.  The smaller circle stands for the constructive role (in life and learning) that Yarrunga Primary School has in the wider community.’
