Our Learning

At Yarrunga Primary School we have a vibrant and enthusiastic cohort of students. Each of our students feels a sense of belonging and connection to our school and to fellow students. We forge close relationships where each individual is valued and everyone is
equal.

We begin allocating responsibilities to our student as soon as they begin Foundation through the Class Mates program. We have high expectations of our students and scaffold them to be active participants in all areas of the school from their first year.

We provide personalised learning and tailor our teaching to the interests and abilities of our students. We also actively seek student’s voice and the opinions, ideas, wonderings and feedback from our students is used in planning and decision making. Our Kid’s Council is a highlight and through this forum, students give feedback to the school board, our School Council.

While we nurture our students to be their best academic, social and emotional selves, we also are active in ensuring we build broad partnerships and social networks for our students. An example of this is through supporting our students to participate in the Combined Wangaratta Schools Band, providing links to other schools and students, the Wangaratta High School and is an additional form of transition.

Our students embody our school values. Each and every day they are supported, prompted and encouraged to Be a Learner, Be Responsible and Be Respectful. The consistent whole-school Behaviours Matrix supports them to be able to showcase these values at all times.

We also have a whole school approach to the teaching of values, resilience and we utilise a School-Wide Positive Behaviour approach.
